Signaculum

Writer's picture: Valerie GreggValerie Gregg

I started composing this composition more than a year ago and I recorded it late this Summer. I began thinking about the motifs and melody shortly after my Dad passed away in the Summer of 2017 and this choral piece has brought me comfort and joy amidst a sad situation. I hope that this piece can give you all some peace and joy as well.

The text comes from sections in Song of Solomon 8:6-7 and it says, “Set me as a seal upon your arm; Love is strong as death, like a mighty flame; Many waters can not quench love, rivers cannot sweep it away; Set me as a seal” This choral piece is dedicated to the loved ones that have already passed. Though their bodies are no longer present, their love will forever be present, for love is stronger than death.
