The Perfect Pairing
The Essential Key to Music Development
What is the Perfect Pairing?
Music composition should not be reserved for professionals, the few top composers, or only those who are pursuing composition as a career. All compositions, whether a masterpiece by Mozart or a short four measure song written by a six-year-old, requires creativity. Young students are naturally creative and do not need to be ‘qualified’ to compose music. They just need to be taught the right tools to express their creativity.

The perfect pairing occurs when music students study an instrument and are encouraged to compose their own music regularly. They can apply the theory and technique they have been learning in their music lessons to composing. The Perfect Pairing is the perfect tool for teachers to easily integrate simple and short music composition assignments into their students’ lessons.
This workbook contains listening sheets and composition exercises. The listening sheets contain a brief introduction to a musical element, an overview of a composer, and a suggested composition
to listen to. The composition sheets contain a project for students where they write 4-8 measures of music from a focused story, thought, vision, or idea. They use the musical elements they have been learning to write their composition.

When your student composes music, the teaching opportunities will open up as they ask questions regarding music theory, notation, and methodology. You will also gain insight into your student’s level of comprehension with musical elements.

Remember that anyone can be a composer! The journey does not need to start with a masterpiece, just a start!
